MAUA – Museum of AugmentedUrban Art – is an open-air gallery, outside the center of Milan, which consists of over 50 works of street art animated in augmented reality.
MAUA was born thanks to the Public Call for tenders – pheriphery sector funded by the City of Milan, with which were selected and funded, between over 150 proposals received, 14 cultural projects for the areas of Giambellino-Lorenteggio, Adriano-Padova-Rizzoli, Corvetto-Chiaravalle-Porto di Mare, Niguarda-Bovisa e Qt8-Gallaratese.
The operas featured in MAUA Museum have been directly selected by the citizens, during an unprecedented experiment in participative curation resulting in a public discussion on the perception and value of street art works for the urban environment.
These works have been mapped and documented during photography workshop by students and members of the local residents’ associations, together with professors from the CFP Bauer school and from each of the 5 districts; as a final output, 10 most representative works were selected.
A WIDE-SPREAD OPEN-AIR MUSEUM OUT OF THE ORDINARY ROUTES
50 young animation designers then processed the images during an augmented reality workshop, and produced 50 unpublished digital contents that today animate the selected works.
Today the works of the MAUA are freely usable by consulting the complete map below, on the Bepart app or on the catalogue available at BASE Milano from December 17, 2017.
The project was conducted and managed by a network of partners counting the social cooperative Bepart (leader), the center for culture and creativity BASE Milano, the Terre di Mezzo publishing house, the Bauer photography school, the PUSH design laboratory. and the Arrigo and Pia Pini Foundation.
